Single pane of Glass

A single pane of glass is a management console for the Cloud that presents data from multiple sources in a unified display. The glass, in this case, is a computer monitor or mobile device screen.

 

Cloud services need orchestration in order to work. Cloud orchestration uses service, workload and resource orchestration to do the following:

  • provision, deploy or start servers
  • acquire and assign storage capacity
  • manage networking
  • create VMs
  • gain access to specific software on cloud services

 

These are three main categories of cloud services:

 

SaaS

Software as a service (SaaS) is a software delivery method where by a third-party provider hosts applications and makes them available to customers over the Internet. SaaS dependent on PaaS.

 

PaaS

Platform as a Service (PaaS) is an optimized environment in which users can install applications and data sets. PaaS dependent on IaaS.

 

IaaS

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) provides virtualized computing resources over the internet and depends on virtualization technology like VMware's vCenter Server & Microsoft's Azure.
